Mosaic

Kinetic Arts also produces custom mosaics; here, a mosaic was created on a base of clear glass, to be hung as a stained glass 'picture' within an existing window. The design was taken from the famous Van Gogh Irises painting. Mosaics can be used as table tops, house signs and other accent pieces. This version of the 'Irises' window uses opaque glass exclusively, which does not allow light to flow through the design, but which is effectively lit up by the sun or other backlighting as it catches and holds the light. It also provides the room with a beautiful 'picture' even when lit only by interior lights.

This 'Irises' glass-on-glass mosaic was made using semi-translucent glass, and based on the famous van Gogh 'Irises' painting. The semi-translucent glass allows a large amount of sunlight to flow through the design, but also provides an attractive window when there is no sun (fully-translucent windows tend to go dark and show very little color without transmitted light, and opaque glass windows tend to block sunlight and not transmit color into a room). The rich purple and blue glass used for the irises is similar to glass used by Tiffany, and provides an extra 'glow' to the design.
